Sustainability is incredibly important to the team at Colombo 7, who champion local suppliers, but also support independent producers back in Sri Lanka. By doing this, the Colombo 7 keep their footprint small and their connections strong. Colombo 7 is all about marrying together true Sri Lankan heritage, craft, and of a culture that’s always been about sharing good food with good people.
The small plates and bites selection includes devilled cauliflower wings with capsicum, tomato, ginger and soya, deliciously creamy hot butter squid with sweet chilli pasta, and scallops in spiced parsnip puree with pear achcharu and crispy pancetta. There isn't a huge selection for the main meals, but there's plenty to cater to all tastes. Try the roast chicken curry with lemongrass, tamarind and coconut milk, or the dosa and vada savoury pancake with coconut chutney and sambar.
There's also a wild boar curry with pineapple pickle, jaggery slow cooked beef brisket, and a salmon steak with crispy lady fingers, mussels and crab curry. On the side, try the Asian fried aubergine with baby shallot, the creamy crown prince pumpkin with coconut, mustard and toasted pumpkin seeds, and then coconut yoghurt and boondi raita with pomegranate. To finish things off, there's a selection of delicious desserts to choose from. Try the gingerbread ice cream with honeycomb, a rich chocolate orange brownie with chocolate soil and pistachio ice cream, or the coconut sorbet with lime zest and toasted coconut flakes.
