Cafe 1922 is a cool, must-visit spot in Chelsea which captures the spirit of European cafe culture but with a modern twist. Think all day dining, nostalgic interiors and a curation of small plates and bottles sourced from across the continent. It's the perfect day-to-night spot.
The concept behind Cafe 1922 is an easy, familiar hang-out that you can meet friends for coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner - and simply swing by with no reservation needed. The day menu offers an impressive selection of pastries with some stand-out options including the rhubarb and ricotta bun, alongside a pistachio medeline. Brunch includes homemade foccacia topped with the likes of fennel salami and artichoke, while lunch bowls combine miso-glazed Atlantic trout with chickpeas and red pepper. A little bit healthy, a little bit hearty, and often indulgent - there's something for everyone.
Later in the day, the evening menu is all about seasonal produce and doing things in house, by hand. Cucumber, cauliflower and carrots are all pickled on site for salty snacks with a bite, while duck and pistachio terrine, pithivier of the day, and Scottish smoked salmon rillette, make up some of the to-share plates. For dessert, get stuck into indulgences such as gateau basque with vanilla and maple cream.
On the horizon, the team at Cafe 1922 aim to launch a programme of events which will include workshops, creative sessions and wine tastings, tapping into the local community. Another thing to note is style: Cafe 1922 has bags of it. The whole space has received a gorgeous refurbishment with industrial details above and a striking marble-esque, wave-patterned floor. Meanwhile, the bar paints a sophisticated picture with oxblood marble and table feature deep purple seating and chic mini lamps. If aesthetic and ambience matter to you just as much as what's on your plate, we think you'll be satisfied.
