Bonheur by Matt Abé marks a new chapter for the acclaimed chef, opening his first solo venture on the iconic Upper Brook Street site formerly home to Le Gavroche. Having led Restaurant Gordon Ramsay to three Michelin stars for eight consecutive years, Abé now brings his signature precision and passion to a space that blends classical technique with contemporary flair.
The name Bonheur – French for ‘happiness’ – sets the tone for a dining experience rooted in joy, generosity, and craftsmanship. The menu is ingredient-led and classically inspired, with subtle nods to Abé’s Australian heritage and Asian influences. Guests can opt for a la carte or explore two tasting menus: the five-course Journey or the seven-course Dream. For a more intimate experience, the six-seat Chef’s Table, Petit Bonheur, offers a front-row seat to the kitchen’s artistry and a rare chance to interact with Abe as he cooks.
Dishes are elegant and expressive – think a refined take on Quiche Lorraine with smoked pork belly and Vin Jaune sauce, or a 125-day aged Cumbrian Blue Grey Sirloin served with potato terrine and Bordelaise. Desserts, like the indulgent Pecan Praline with Pedro Ximénez gel, are equally memorable.
The wine list, curated with Head Sommelier Eric Zwiebel, is a thoughtful balance of old and new, featuring boutique producers like Henri Giraud Champagne.
Designed by Russell Sage Studio, the interiors are warm and minimalist, with rich textures and earthy tones that nod to Abé’s roots. From the sunset-hued lounge to the sculptural subterranean dining room, every detail is considered.
Bonheur is more than a restaurant - it’s a deeply personal project that honours culinary legacy while nurturing the next generation of talent. A must-visit for London’s fine dining devotees.
