Under the same ownership as seafood stalwart, The Oysterman, this wine bar and bottle shop hits the Covent Garden vibe to a tee. A carefully nurtured selection of wine, with a particular strength in English, is complemented by craft beer, pre-mixed cocktails and a nice selection of premium Sake. The basic food offering might be secondary but is never less than well sourced – take perfect Perello olives or artisan cheeses from Buchanan’s. Decor is a simple affair, played out around bar stools and a central wooden table, alongside a couple of wine barrels masquerading as tables. Pick a bottle of Rathfinny or Gusborne from a fridge or the shelves or, equally exciting, a glass of Junmai Sake which would be perfectly matched with some Ortiz sardines. Watch out for wine tastings and one-off masterclasses often involving suppliers.
