Tucked away on the bustling Barnes High Street, Base Face Pizza Barnes is a cosy pizzeria located just a short stroll from the Thames. With its vibrant exterior, and cosy, rustic feel, diners can delve into the site’s signature slow dough pizzas.
Starting off life as a lockdown pop-up, Base Face Pizza opened its first brick and mortar site back in 2021, after spending months serving sourdough pizzas to the local community. Founder Tim Thornton spent 10 years working as one of the UK’s most in demand jazz bassists, before the pandemic turned his life upside down and caused this drastic career change. Now with three locations across the capital, Base Face Pizza Barnes offers a refined backdrop on the outskirts of the capital where diners can pop in for deliciously, doughy pizzas, straight from the oven, and a couple of drinks.
When it comes to food at Base Face Pizza, the team is dedicated to ensuring the perfect pizza, using long ferments and healthy grains in their process, and not feeling the constraint of tradition. Ingredients are locally sourced, and incredibly high quality, that results in some great food. A selection of nibbles is available to start your evening, from buffalo caprese, and olives, to dough sticks and garlic butter.
But the main event is obviously the slow dough pizzas. Expect classic offerings such as marinara, margherita and double salami, with some slightly more unique offerings also hitting the menu. The Carbonara is topped with crispy guanciale, egg yolk and pecorino, whilst the cheeky pineapple sees Cobble Lane pepperoni, jalapenos, and pineapple jam all spread across the dough. A white base alternative is also on offer, topped with nduja sausage, house jalapeno jam and red onion.
Finish off with a selection of Italian desserts, although with a bit of a twist. Enjoy nutella dough sticks doused in icing sugar, or opt for one of the clotted cream or pistachio tiramisu.
