Bar Kick

SquareMeal Review of Bar Kick

It may inhabit a former shoe wholesaler’s, but imaginary footie boots are what you’ll need at this regular E1 fixture where, at the flick of a wrist, you can win the World Cup every time. Covetable, caressable, classic baby-foot tables are the focal point at this lived-in approximation of a provincial place du marché bar/café circa early Johnny Hallyday. Swig iconic beers & pick sides – Estrella Damm (Spain), Desperados (France), Brahma (Brazil), Nastro Azzuro (Italy) – as the semi-finals kick off. To the loser, blue-collar wines from under £15; to the victor, house Champagne at £38 & crowd-pleasing casseroles, salads, soups, sarnies & seasonal bites to share.

As sports bars go, Bar Kick has got everything…good beer, big tasty sausage sandwiches, table-football, and girls!! Me and my friends have been going to Bar Kick for years, and we're still not tired of it. What better way to get rid of your daily stress than whooping your mates ass at table-football?! There's happy hour between 4-7 where their beer of the day is only £2, and all the cocktails are £4.75 which is a great start to the evenings proceedings. The food is great too, they have a real mixture of things. My girlfriend always chooses one of their salads (which are massive!) but I prefer their sausage and mash, or their grilled chorizo and rocket sandwich is pretty special too. The music in the bar is mainly latin/brazilian but there's always some classic 80's tracks in there too to keep me happy otherwise it would be latino overload!!! They do live football really well too, the atmosphere during the World cup was absolutely brilliant, they said it was going to be in 3D but it wasn't…but who cares. What I like most about Kick is it doesn't try to be ‘cool’ like most of the bars in shoreditch… it just is what it is, like it or lump it…and I like it!! .

I really cannot get enough of this place!! During the day its great for a bite to eat and a relaxed coffee. I recommend the daily specials, they are always less than £8 per dish, always made fresh…and always delicious. I've never been disappointed with any of the food at bar Kick…EVER!!! It's not only the food that's great, the cocktails are made with real love and pride by the staff (who are from all over the world which matches all the flags on the ceilings!) and theres a better choice of beer here than most bars can even attempt to offer. I'm not usually keen on watching live football in pubs in England, but bar Kick doesn't feel like England and it's full of multi-national people (and full of girls which makes a change)…it makes watching live football like the Euro and the World Cup super exciting! As bars go, this is the one that I always make a friend or two in. Fussball (or tablefootball as its called here) is quite simply the best pub game to make friends over, who need pool when 4 of you can play a game of fussball??! If you've never been there…go, you'll love it (and probably make a friend!) x ;-)
