Babble has opened at Hove Beach Park as part of Brighton & Hove Council’s wider seafront development, bringing a new all-day dining spot directly onto the promenade. Operating on a long-term lease, it’s positioned as a sun-up to sun-down venue, designed to serve both locals and visitors moving between the beach, park and nearby sports facilities.
The space is built around a café, bar and kitchen concept, with a layout that makes the most of its coastal setting. Sea views are a constant, and the addition of east, west and south-facing terraces means outdoor dining is a key part of the experience throughout the day. The set-up is deliberately flexible - somewhere to stop for a quick coffee in the morning, or settle in with drinks as the evening draws in - with a focus on relaxed accessibility rather than formality.
The food offering follows the same all-day structure. Mornings centre on pastries, coffee and brunch dishes including poached eggs, Turkish eggs and a sausage, bacon and egg breakfast bap. As the day moves on, the menu offers some more substantial options. Tacos sit alongside the Double Slam burger, while a dedicated children’s menu ensures it works for families as well as groups. There’s also a practical angle, with protein-focused dishes, juices and smoothies aimed at those coming from the beach or sports facilities.
The outdoor BBQ becomes a focal point in warmer weather, using meat from Barfields butchers and produce from Shrub Provisions. The format is simple: whole cuts, vegetables, charred breads and house-made sauces, designed either to eat on-site or take away to the beach.
The main menu is structured for sharing as well as individual plates. Snacks include padrón peppers and flatbread with butterbean hummus, while small plates range from confit tomato soup with fried mozzarella to chicken liver pâté with rhubarb chutney. Larger dishes cover burgers, a spiced chicken bun and beer-battered fish and chips, with plant-based options included throughout. And, as for drinks, you can expect a beverages menu that showcases local breweries and vineyards alongside cocktails and spritzes.
