Broome Park Hotel can be traced back to the days of Charles I, finally completing its build around 1638. This grand mansion and its grounds is one of the finest examples of Carolean architecture in the country, and a visit here feels nothing short of special. It would be perfectly fitting, then, to visit somewhere as grand as this for a traditional, British afternoon tea. So don your best Regency frock, and head to Canterbury for a memorable experience.
Afternoon tea, at Broome Park Hotel, is served either in the main gallery or one of the Mansion House's lodges, with beautiful views across the 300-something acres. Each afternoon tea is served with your choice of fine loose leaf teas, including green, Earl Grey, herbal options and classic English breakfast. You'll also receive a selection of finger sandwiches, including free range egg and cress, a fresh smoked salmon with lemon and dill butter, and honey glazed ham and grain mustard mayonnaise. From the bakery, you'll enjoy fruit and plain scones with clotted cream, strawberry jam and lemon curd, and a cheese scone that's filled with cucumber and cream cheese.
Sweet treats include a chocolate opera cake, a syrupy strawberry tart, indulgent chocolate and cherry bombe and light lemon drizzle cake. The gluten free menu is much the same, but the pastries are swapped out for a Pimms fruit vacherin, raspberry bakewell and chocolate brownie. The vegan menu includes savouries of hummus with roasted vegetables and an avocado, lettuce and vegan mayonnaise sandwich, along with a chocolate and orange finger, and lemon and poppyseed cake.
These afternoon tea experiences book up quickly, so if you’re hoping to visit Broome Park Hotel, make sure to reserve your table in advance.
