Billericay is a town and civil parish found in the borough of Basildon in Essex. Whether local residents like it or not, Billericay is probably best known as being the home of Gavin Shipman, his parents Pam and Mick and his best friend ‘Smithy’. Of course, we are referring to the hit BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, although fans of the show might be disappointed if they turn up trying to find Pam and Mick’s house - the ‘Billericay’ we saw on screen was actually shot in Wales, along with the rest of the series.
In real life, Billericay is popular with families and professionals and is handily within commuting distance of London via car or train - ideal for people who want to work in the city, but enjoy a more countryside feel outside of business hours. Billericay is also home to a thriving restaurant scene, which comprises a mix of much-loved high street brands and independent joints, which are often family run. Restaurants in Billericay span the global larder, with various cuisines represented here - fancy some pizza and pasta? Or maybe you are in the mood for a steaming hot curry? Or perhaps it is Thai food that you are craving? Well Billericay has it all.
Much of the dining in Billericay takes place on its popular high street, which is chock full of shops, restaurants, bars and pubs. It is great to see a thriving high street in a small town in this day and age, which makes going for dinner in Billericay even more appealing. Billericay restaurants offer plenty for families too, although there are more grown-up places if you are looking for a night away from the kids.
