Yak & Yeti - Crystal Palace
Tucked away in the back streets of Crystal Palace, Yak & Teti is a “wonderful find” proclaims one fan who also appreciates its “calm and purposeful atmosphere”. Named after a famous five-star hotel in Kathmandu, this neighbourhood eatery is a cheery, affordable prospect, done out in warm red and orange tones, with a relaxing bar adding to the all-round appeal. The kitchen delivers “imaginative” food with strong regional overtones and an obvious Nepali accent: favourites such as steamed momo dumplings could give way to bhutuwa chicken with Nepalese herbs, slow-cooked pokhareli lamb or kidney beans and black lentils simmered in traditional style. Curry-house ‘classics’ are many and varied (dhansak, korma, biryani, etc) and there’s also a smattering of Tibetan dishes for those who want to go off-piste – try the jingha benta (sliced aubergine stir-fried with shrimps). To drink, we’d recommend an ice-cold Kathmandu beer. Excellent service also makes dining here “a real pleasure”.
