SquareMeal Review of Usquabae Whisky Bar & Larder

You don’t have to love whisky to drink here, but it helps.  The dark interior, with its stone, copper and wood accents is intended to echo the distillery process and the array of different whiskies, all hand picked by the passionate enthusiast and general manager Dr Chris White, stretches to around 400 different bottles, from the incredibly rare pre-World War II, to classic leading brands, to their own live cask housing their soon-to-be house brand. With so much to choose from, it’s great that the staff are knowledgeable enough to give recommendations and tastings - they say there’s a whisky to suit everyone. And to eat?  The likes of Cullen Skink, soused herrings and venison. They say that the inspiration for the bar comes from Robbie Burn’s poem Tam O’Shanter: we’ve a suspicion that this might become the second home of the Scottish National Party.
