Squaremeal Review of Turntable ?

Rare groove, Motown and disco – all on vinyl – provide the funky soundtrack at this new bar-diner and club, set over the ground floor and basement of what was previously cabaret joint, Volupté. Cocktails (£8) are named after retro floor-fillers, with choices including Kool & The Gang’s Jungle Boogie (rum, Mandarine Napoléon and kumquat) and Bill Withers’ Ain’t No Sunshine (Aperol, grapefruit, rosé wine and blood orange); a terse selection of wines starts at £21 with the house Italian Merlot. Decor in the boxy basement diner-cum-dance floor is stark and very white. Here, you’ll find a menu of Asian street-food staples offered in two portion sizes: crab fried rice (£7 and £12), Malay chicken, hot and sour fish, or lentil and aubergine curry, with sorbets to follow. Music ranges from Marvin and Diana to Soul II Soul, whose original member, DJ Jazzi Q, designs the bar’s playlist.
