SquareMeal Review of
The Refinery New Street Square
Open all day, all year round, this small chain of bar/restaurants from the Drake & Morgan group is a bit of a chameleon. In winter, warm woodwork, burnished copper and houndstooth blankets lend a cosy feel to the cavernous interiors, while the expansive, plant-filled terraces come into their own during warmer weather. Whether you drop by for a quick pint, meet for after-work bevvies, or bed in for a lazy Saturday session, the drinks list delivers: bottled craft beers include some London-based brews, most wines on the easy-to-navigate list are served by the glass, and the cocktail menu covers timeless and more unexpected sips (try the rum- and amaretto-laced S’mores, made with marshmallow syrup). Meanwhile, the globetrotting menu cater to all tastes – think charcuterie boards, chargrilled Asian-style tuna, Wagyu burgers, fish pie and pecan tart. A savvy choice that never feels too exclusive.
