The restaurant part of this landmark inn, packed with character, is now a firmly established Wheelers. It sports the trademark Wheeler’s look – smart table settings and stiff napiery, dark furnishings, thick carpet, fireplace – which may be cosy and welcoming in winter but seems a bit anti-fashion in summer. Sensibly the menu is a paired back and not overly expensive roster of favourites, from salt and pepper calamari and whole seabream to beef burger and MPW's shepherds pie. In summer, this part of the Norfolk coast is so informal and chilled out that a restaurant like this feels a touch out-of-kilter, but, considering the money in these parts, it's still a very good addition.
