SquareMeal Review of
The King's Head Crouch End
Crouch-Enders have propped up the bar at this watering hole for decades, and following a recent refurbishment The King’s Head is as busy as ever. Polished wood, exposed brickwork, plush leather sofas and hidden booths create the relaxed atmosphere of a high-quality local. The food has been pepped up too, with the addition of smaller sharing plates: British sprats come in a crisp linseed and quinoa crumb, while poutine arrives smothered with proper chip-shop gravy and chunks of creamy curd. Pub staples such as fish & chips or steak pie are perfect for lining your stomach before a drink. Craft beers, ciders and ales from breweries across the world adorn the bar, with staff keen to offer recommendations. But there’s more to the pub – in the basement is the renowned comedy club. Jimmy Carr, Paul Merton and Eddie Izzard have all tried out material here before embarking on national tours.
