SquareMeal Review of
Radio Alice Clapham
Radio Alice is the London outpost of Italian pizzeria, Berbere, founded by brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, and their friend Emma King. It’s all about the base for this trio, whose pizzas feature a super-light sourdough base made to a traditional recipe from Bologna, which is cooked first and cut into slices, before seasonal toppings are added. The menu is divided into cheese-based or tomato-based pizzas, so we opted for one of each. Our cheese base arrived loaded with speck, gorgonzola, fiordilatte mozzarella and walnuts, drizzled with honey for a sweet/savoury hit; while slivers of soft nduja gave proper spice to the tomato base. Artisan Italian meats, olives and creamy burrata are on offer to start, with gelato, chocolate cake and gin-laced lemon sorbet to finish. Drinks include carefully chosen organic Italian wines and craft beers. Like its sibling in Hoxton Square, this Clapham branch has a pared-back look with bare bricks and vintage furniture, while friendly staff and a soulful soundtrack ensure a cosy, laid-back vibe.
