Mayfair’s Mahiki was one of the ‘it’ clubs of the noughties, known for its celeb pulling power (former guests include Beyoncé and Kate Middleton) and treasure-chest cocktails. Now that the buzz has faded a little, it’s hoping that this sibling site in Kensington (handy for Kate and Wills) can reignite its cool factor. Polynesian-themed restaurant Pufferfish sees diners seated under a pufferfish-shaped disco ball next to a large fish tank and choosing from a pan-Asian menu that includes salmon with truffle oil and ponzu, seared with a blowtorch at the table. Come evening, there’s a dedicated sushi bar and quiet private dining rooms for those looking to escape the soundtrack of club hits – and if you’re really dedicated to inflatable fish, there’s even the option to donate a pound to marine charities working to keep them safe.
