The second venue from Pizza Pilgrims Thom and James Elliott isn’t simply a clone of their original gaff on Dean Street, but ups the ante and extends their hugely popular offer with new varieties, monthly specials and seasonal toppings. The guys have also taken inspiration from Naples’ hole-in-the-wall, street-scene friggitoria – so expect a whole range of moreish deep-fried morsels ranging from courgette flowers and arancini balls stuffed with slow-cooked ragù and Mozzarella to potato and mortadella croquettes. Other additions include pizza fritta (deep-fried calzone filled with Ricotta, Mozzarella and porchetta), plus desserts built around Gelupo’s artisan gelati – not forgetting a reprise of the Pilgrims’ signature Nutella pizza ring. The owners are also planning to serve coffee, sfogliatelle (Neapolitan pastries) and ice creams from a dedicated outdoor kiosk below stairs.
This is about Pizza Pilgrims – a small set up by brothers Thom and James Elliot who have a real passion for Napoli-inspired street food. The pizzas are fantastic and the prices start from just £5. There’s currently only two branches although they do takeaway/delivery or you can buy a Frying Pan Pizza kit (£10) from either restaurant and make a couple yourself – this we’re yet to try.We headed to the newer of the two at the now buzzing Kingly Court off Carnaby Street. So the folks at Zomato invited a few pizza-loving bloggers to do a rather serious job at Pizza Pilgrims in Kingly Court; as "Pizza Gods", we had to judge five of their chefs' creations and choose which one gets to be their Guest Pizza of the Month. Tough job, aye?
