Named for the Japanese word for basil, of which the staff use a surprising amount throughout the menu in salads, as tempura etc, this little Japanese restaurant is a real asset to the Crouch End dining scene. Take a table in the main part of the simple, clean room or sit up at the sushi bar for culinary entertainment – there’s an impressive list of sushi and sashimi on the menu here and watching a master at work is never a chore. If raw fish is not your thing however, there’s plenty else to choose from, be it tempura of soft shell crab, chicken katsudon, a great helping of udon noodles or a heart-warming ramen. It’s inexpensive, healthy and seriously tasty.
