SquareMeal Review of
Erudite French cartoons, shelves of books and shared oak tables give Jak’s café and deli the feel of a campus hangout. But this is Chelsea, so its customers are more likely to be foreigners craving
their native café culture or young Brits getting their rocks off with eco-friendly food, home-baked treats and ginger-laced juices. The Italian proprietor and super-smiley staff know most of their
punters by name, and are happy to shoot the breeze while they choose from the piles of fruit and vegetables awaiting martyrdom in the juicer. Food-wise, the menu sticks to a risk-free repertoire
dominated by grills, pasta, Mediterranean-style salads and specials such as poached organic salmon with lemon and white wine sauce; cake stands laden with gooey brownies and iced muffins add a
touch of wicked indulgence to proceedings.
