Slap bang in the City heartland, this plush oriental restaurant impresses with its setting and its business-accented schtick. The vaulted brick and stone cellar of the porticoed behemoth that is the Royal Exchange has been enhanced by low lighting, opulent upholstery and parquet flooring. The menu, too, looks appealing, offering a Chinese-based repertoire that nips over borders to South-East Asia. So, alongside razor clams in piquant chilli and black-bean sauce, you’ll find starters of BBQ chicken satay or even teriyaki eel fillet. Deal-clinching lobster banquets are in place for second course, before the likes of red chicken curry, stir-fried ostrich fillet, or that Sichuan classic, sea spice aubergine. Desserts such as chocolate fondue confirm our belief that flavours here are geared to western palates.
