SquareMeal Review of
Horniman Museum Café
If this peerless family museum’s cracking interactive exhibits have worn out you and your brood, then retire to its stylish, modern café overlooking the venue’s 16 acres of beautifully tended grounds. Although not a destination in itself, the café is well-geared to meet visitors’ needs, particularly those with young children. Service is fast and friendly, there are plenty of high chairs, and the pre-packed kids’ lunchboxes are a cut above. Even the lollies are made with real fruit. For the adults, there’s a wide selection of hot food, including deep-filled quiches and specials such as chicken satay skewers, plus nicely executed roasts with all the trimmings on Sundays. Seats on the shaded terrace are at a premium in sunny weather, while the stunning Grade II-listed Victorian conservatory next to the main dining area provides a spectacular overflow option on busy days.
