The Electric Press building bordering Millennium Square houses a collection of bars, restaurants and the Carriageworks Theatre, all created out of a collection of dilapidated Victorian workshops. Set amid this complex is the Epernay – a stylish and cool Champagne bar with a pleasant covered indoor courtyard and tables among the palms. Fizz is sourced from around 21 different houses and is the drink of choice: expect a cast of familiar names such as Billecart-Salmon, Moët & Chandon Rosé Imperial or top-end Cristal, although these are upstaged by some less immediately recognisable marques. There’s also an adventurous, 70-strong choice of cocktails ranging from simple Champagne classics to ever more exotic mixes by way of brandy Alexander and black truffle flip. Alternatively, play it safe with a glass of wine.
