SquareMeal Review of The Courthouse Hotel

You probably don’t expect to hear Champagne flutes go ‘chink’ in a clink, but you can now toast your freedom (or anything else) in the recast holding cells at this former magistrates court. The list of infamous names that have actually appeared before the beak here include Oscar Wilde, Mick Jagger, Johnny Rotten and Christine Keeler, but Champagne cocktails are now the thing here. Otherwise, high-society tipplers should investigate the ‘behind bars’ martini or ‘inmates’ bramble (Bombay Sapphire, fresh watermelon, crème de mure and lemon, sweetened and built on ice) – just the ticket with jalapeño poppers, tapas platters and panini from £5.95. In summer, you can get high on the Sky Terrace rooftop bar without the risk of landing up in front of the judge.
