A fixture on the south London lounge circuit since 2014, Cocktail Embassy is a good local bet. Its slightly dated decor may be reminiscent of a Girls Aloud haunt, but the competent, stylishly presented drinks draw in fans from Crystal Palace and beyond. Classicists will enjoy the likes of Boulevardier, Old Cuban, or a take on Treacle (the legendary late Dick Bradsell’s rum Old Fashioned), though moderate investment in the house creations also pays off, especially for Her Name Is Suzie (an aquavit and Suze Sour), and mellow, rich, viscous Love By The Hour (whisky, port, Cynar and sherry). Premium G&Ts come with their ideal ‘adornment’ – San Francisco’s St George Botanivore served with dill, black peppercorns and lemon, say. A curt wine selection is an addendum to the considerable list, should cocktails with charcuterie or cheese plates not float your boat. Afterwards, sway to soulful sounds in the basement bar.
