SquareMeal Review of Central & Co

CENTRAL & CO IS CLOSED AND HAS BEEN REPLACED BY BURGERI

A prime spot for soaking up Soho’s effervescent street scene, this stylish all-day eatery pulls in allcomers with its art-deco interiors, marble-topped tables, mosaic tiling, whitewashed brickwork and arresting modern art, while the appealing menu is served by ‘prompt’, ‘helpful’ and genuinely friendly staff. Dishes are appealing and well cooked, making Central & Co a favourite for mother-and-daughter catch-ups as well as business meets. Breakfast could see fluffy pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, while the main menu touts British small plates (warm Scotch duck eggs with homemade pickles, say), vibrant salads and burgers, plus generous helpings of the day’s fish and honest traditional puds. A basement bar extends the venue’s offering into the night. Readers confirm that it’s ‘excellent value for money’, given the location.

I went there for lunch last Friday with two friends. It was a bit quiet, perhaps because it's new and we went a bit on the early side. But the decor was nice, the service was prompt and helpful. The server suggested we order three small plates a person, which turned out to be a bit much. However, the food was excellent. We ordered two fried cauliflower dishes and they were superb. The two bone marrow plates we ordered were also excellent. The beef tartare were not that great I have to say, but the linguistine was sublime. The crab salad was also delicious. It was only £20 per person for tea and coffee and nine small plates including service. That we thought was a great deal in this location and for such great food. I can't wait to go back!
