Café Rouge - Wellington Street says

With a combination of delicious food, great wines and a real ambience, Café Rouge has embodied the style and je ne sais quoi of French dining since it opened way back in 1989. Now with over 90 sites across the country it's just the place to mull over the morning papers with a cafe au lait and a croissant, pop in for a spot of lunch, share a post-work drink or relax over an evening meal. The menu covers a range of French classics from croques and baguettes, ideal for a quick and easy snack, to more substantial fare such as steak frites and boeuf bourguignon. Likewise, the wines are predominately French; many made by lesser known producers, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the food on offer. No hassle, no rush, no skinny- decaff-double-shot-to-go, just a vibrant atmosphere that moves with your moods throughout the day.

Cafe Rouge, the Francophile gastro experience is okay for Holborn, a little better than average. I went along with a boyfriend for Sunday lunch, for the first weekend before Christmas. My duck leg was a little dry on the skin, but tender enough, whilst his steak was a pointe to perfection. The desserts faired better with a great chocolate torte and a more than adequate creme brulee. The Vin Mousseux selection was fine A better lunch venue – not worth couples dining.

Well, I tried to book a later table but couldn't, so was surprised to find that there was enough space later. We were not in a hurry as we were off to the theatre later. However, the service was a bit lack luster and the prices were ridiculous for what we had. I noticed quite a few people were sharing starters as a main and keeping away from the alcohol (I'm sure it was the prices). Disappointed.

As expected cafe rouge was very busy, too busy i think for the staff. it took a long time to be served, the food was lovely but not all of the courses made it out to us, i ordered the mushroom linguini but got mushroom penne which is fine part apart from the waiter telling me it was linguini …not sure who he was trying to convince. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and addressed issues with the bill with no quarms.
