This first permanent site for a pop-up and food truck brings a cheap, cheerful and intensely tasty burger offering to Spitalfields Market. Using British beef prepared by Bermondsey’s The Butcher, burgers start at £6 and include bacon, blue cheese and tofu options. The highlight is the Bleecker Black (£10), a double cheeseburger with a disc of black pudding sandwiched within that adds a heavier, saltier edge to plump burger patties which are cooked however you like your meat done. Our cheeseburger was less impressive, being smaller and containing one lettuce leaf, while the ‘Angry Fries’ were coated in blue cheese, hot sauce and way too much salt (the sweet potato fries were much better). Milkshakes are the only dessert choice; elsewhere on the drinks list, there are softies and beers. Sit at the market’s communal benches if you don’t want to take away, although these burgers are too good not to scoff immediately.
In Bleeker St. we trust. Thou shalt have burgers medium rare.‘Err… yeah sure’ was the reply I gave.I was caught off guard. Medium rare, for a burger? Sure, a steak medium rare is normal, but if you received a medium rare burger in McDonald’s, you would complain. But I found myself saying yes (with no conviction) when Bleecker St. Burger popped me the question. I waited nervously for my burger, wondering would I like a medium rare burger?

This was never going to be the longest blog post; there’s only so much I can say about tucking into a burger while sitting on a park bench in Old Spitalfields Market. What I can say however is that it was the best bloomin’ burger I think I’ve ever eaten.Bleecker St. Burger started life as a food truck and it has had stints all over the place including a successful run on the Southbank. Now, however it has its very own mini shop-front in Spitalfields. I was hoping it would be a restaurant but no-such-luck; you have to perch on a picnic table, which in the freezing cold isn’t particularly enjoyable/glamorous...

There is only so much you can write about burgers. I did go to two different burgers joints in one week, in fact that week has been non stop eating out that I felt obnoxiously unhealthy. So much carbs and grease, it will not stop me eating burgers and on ward.Like many restaurateurs/chefs/etc, it is their passion of food which brought them to where they are in the food world. It is no different to Zan Kaufman, a corporate laywer from New York City and with her love of burgers brought us Bleeck St. Burger. The life of Bleecker St. Burger started out as a food truck roaming around London with rave reviews...

Bleecker Burger, street food veterans and winners of London Burger Bash 2014, recently opened a burger hatch in Old Spitalfields Market. I say hatch rather than restaurant or diner, as it is literally a hole-in-the-wall kitchen with a few benches outside. Is it any different to them parking their food truck behind a brick wall with a window? Not really, but who cares? Now we know where to go for a fix of angry fries and Bleecker meat every day of the week (from 11.30am-9pm).The slightly bigger space allows them to produce some rather fine milkshakes (including Caravan coffee) which you might...

I’m going to start out this blog by saying something controversial: I know there are probably a gajillion places that one can get a burger in London, but Bleecker St. Burger is the best. This isn’t just my opinion, it’s my fact-pinion.Bleecker St. Burger started out as a food truck (as many burger places in London do). They were so popular and successful that Zan Kaufman (the founder) opened up a permanent stand in Old Spitalfields Market. I was excited when this happened because it meant I could go get the best burger in London anytime. I didn’t have to wait until it was a nice summer day at Southbank or have...

I think we have already established that aside from my irrational love of cheese and plantain, I could never miss the jumble and calamity of a good market. Show me a food market, with beer and beats then, and it&s as if all my loves are coming together in one sweet symphony and the stars are aligning to create an epic evening! I am a big fan of all things Street Feast and having already blogged about Model Market last year, I was super keen to get down to Hawker House before the doors closed this weekend.
