This funky chicken shop serves up North American-style fried chicken in all the best ways with plenty of specials, Absurd shakes and waffles. Absurd Bird Bath’s interior tells of its kooky ways with bright colours, vintage photographs on the walls and mismatched chairs. The restaurant has two levels where you can eat at benches, booths or individual tables. Everything is kept simple but tells of old American saloons with wooden furniture, patterned wallpaper, and old-school light fixtures.
The food and drink here helps Absurd Bird Bath live up to its name, serving a range of creative shakes, crispy buttermilk chicken and a vast cocktail list. Sip on an Absurd Butter my Nuts shake with peanut butter, whipped cream and an Oreo ice-cream sandwich or if that’s not to your liking, try out the Farting Unicorn.
Begin your meal with small bites of fried mac ‘n’ cheese balls or a grilled baby gem topped with bacon and a blue cheese and citrus dressing. Mains include a variety of wings, burgers and waffles. A burger favourite is the AB messy fried chicken with mac ‘n’ cheese, a cheese sauce, onions, jalapenos and pickles. Waffles include sliders or bigger waffles; munch on the PBJ with chicken, bacon jam and peanut butter. End a deep-fried meal with a decadent dessert of waffles with caramel and ice-cream or share the Dipsy: a baked brioche tear-and-share with crème anglasise and chocolate and caramel dipping sauces.
Absurd Bird Bath keeps the party going until late with two cocktails for under a tenner and late night happy hour after 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. At the weekend, the restaurant has a bottomless brunch two-course special with the option of adding a third course. Kiddies can join in on the fun with their very own Chickadee menu, offering a choice of mains with a side and dessert, while Absurd Bird Bath is pocket-friendly too, offering a bottomless wing night on Wednesdays and a lunch special for a tenner.
