Just opposite Bath Spa train station, Cafe Au Lait is one of the city’s best brunch spots. Family run, with a rustic feel and a great menu, Cafe Au Lait is popular with locals and tourists alike.
Brunch, lunch and drinks are served seven days a week, so if you enjoy a great dish of eggs your way, you'll find them being whipped up fresh at all times in Cafe Au Lait. The full English breakfast is complete with smoked streaky bacon, Larkhall sausage, poached eggs and house beans, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, hash browns and toasted sourdough.
There's also a popular dish of mashed avocado with eggs and tomato salsa, with your choice of smoked streaky bacon or smoked salmon, and the grilled mushrooms on toasted sourdough, drizzled with pesto and topped with crispy onions. If you fancy something hearty and warming, try the baked shakshuka in a spicy tomato sauce with feta cheese.
If that’s not your style, you’ll also find a whole section dedicated to pancakes, whether you want buttermilk or protein. Try the berry compote with candied banana and maple syrup, the Biscoff or streaky bacon. There is a selection of sourdough toasties to choose from, including ham and cheese with rocket, mustard mayo, pickles and sauerkraut, and the halloumi and honey with harissa.
The loaded brunch fries are also popular, and include an option with cheddar cheese, pulled BBQ chicken and jalapenos, and the signature fries with halloumi, mint, pomegranate molasses, seeds and a homemade garlic and herb sauce. Of course, all of the cafe staple drinks are on the menu, including specialty teas, a rich cortado and dark chai latte, and milkshakes made with ice cream, whipped cream, sauces and sprinkles. The hit smoothie is packed with raspberries, blueberries, apples, mango and apple juice.
