SquareMeal Review of 152 Aldeburgh

The commitment to producing innovative cooking at reasonable prices has proved a winning formula at this popular Aldeburgh restaurant. Extremely handy for productions at Snape Maltings, the short, calendar-correct menu continues to place the emphasis on quality local produce – local game makes a seasonal appearance & the repertoire is particularly strong on fish – & the pricing structure is a straightforward £4.50 for starters, £9.50 for mains & £3.50 for desserts. Look out for gravadlax with Thai-style dressing, potato & wild garlic soup, then grey mullet or confit duck, with ice chocolate parfait with clear orange sauce to finish. Wines from Suffolk suppliers, Adnams, are also excellent.

Food is always good at 152. Sadly the service is a bit variable – at times the staff are as nice as pie but on other occasions it's felt like they can't really be bothered. I think there are better options in Aldeburgh such as the Regatta or the Lighthouse where staff are always welcoming and go out of their way to ensure you have a good experience.
