SquareMeal Review of
143 Canopy Restaurant
You can’t miss the dramatic black canopy and ornate white columns outside this neighbourhood restaurant on Epsom High Street, although the dining room keeps it subdued with checked cloths, mirrored
walls and prints. Orthodox European cooking with a few add-ons is the order of the day, with ‘black rock’ grills lining up alongside ‘main plates’ of calf’s liver with caramelised onion and port
sauce, wild mushroom and spinach stroganoff or pan-seared ‘fish of the day’ topped with garlicky gremolata. To start, consider fishcakes with mango salsa or smoked duck breast on wild rocket salad
with raspberry and blackcurrant vinaigrette; to conclude, try warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce, baked Alaska or steamed strawberry sponge with pouring cream. Breakfast, afternoon tea,
useful midweek set deals and Sunday roasts complete the package.
