Roketsu offers private dining in Marylebone with an impressive level of intimacy and craftsmanship, and one that feels closer to a Japanese home than booking a conventional function room. Rooted in kappo dining, the restaurant is built around seasonality, interaction and precision, with every part of the experience shaped by traditional Japanese techniques.
Roketsu’s interiors were created by master carpenters Nakamura Sotoji Komuten, specialists in sukiya architecture, using materials handcrafted in Kyoto and assembled in London by the same artisans. The result showcases natural woods, refined proportions and a strong sense of authenticity.
For private events, there are two distinct options on the lower ground floor. The larger private space seats up to 12 guests for dinner or 20 for a standing reception, making it suited to business entertaining, birthdays and intimate celebrations. It overlooks a glass-fronted wine cellar stocked with more than 500 bottles, including rare wines and an extensive vertical of Château Mouton Rothschild from 1968 to 2006. Guests can also bring their own wine or sake, subject to corkage. For something smaller, a fully private room accommodates between two and six guests. Entirely separate from the main dining area, it is designed for discreet business dinners and times when an exclusive atmosphere is a must.
Food remains central whichever space you choose. Seasonal Japanese menus can be created on a bespoke basis, with the same attention to detail seen at Roketsu’s main counter, where chefs grill over binchotan charcoal, cook over straw fire and prepare sushi with careful precision. The restaurant’s philosophy means the meal should feel like a whole experience rather than simply a sequence of dishes. There is also an elegant bar for enjoying sake, fine wine and cocktails inspired by Japanese ingredients with your guests, useful for drinks before or after dinner.
