Private dining at Fourth and Church feels more like being invited into someone’s home than a formal space. Set just off the main dining room, the private area at Fourth and Church centres around a single long table, making it particularly well suited to groups who want to share food, conversation and a sense of occasion without anything feeling overly staged.
The room itself is quietly atmospheric. Painted in deep green across both walls and ceiling, it has a cocooned, intimate feel, softened by candlelight and filament bulb lighting. A large mirror at one end reflects the glow and gives the space a bit more depth, but it remains deliberately low-lit and cosy, encouraging guests to settle in for the evening.
Food is served as a series of sharing plates, with two set menu options available depending on budget. A welcome drink sets things off, before the table fills with snacks such as sourdough, olives and smoked almonds. From there, dishes arrive in a steady rhythm, built around seasonal ingredients and bold flavour combinations. You might find dishes such as beetroot-cured salmon alongside confit squash or celeriac fondant, followed by plates such as Cumbria chicken with parsnip dal or cauliflower with macadamia dukkah and pomegranate. Desserts continue in the same vein, with options like hazelnut and orange polenta cake or pomegranate parfait and the option to add cheeses with pickles and flatbreads.
The wider Fourth and Church restaurant, run by Sam Pryor and Paul Morgan since 2015, has built a reputation as a neighbourhood favourite, part wine shop, part deli and part restaurant. It’s lively and atmospheric, with bottles lining the walls and one of the most extensive wine and sherry selections on the South Coast. That same attention to drinks carries through to private events at Fourth and Church, with everything from aperitifs and wines to digestifs and low-alcohol options available.
