About

Tucked away on Edinburgh’s atmospheric Thistle Street, Fishers in the City offers a private dining experience that blends classic city-centre charm with refined, contemporary flair. Housed in a beautifully converted warehouse, the restaurant’s stylish interiors, all clean lines, exposed stone, and warm lighting provide an elegant yet relaxed backdrop for everything from celebratory dinners to business gatherings.

Whether you’re marking a milestone or planning an intimate get-together, Fishers in the City has long been a favourite among locals and in-the-know visitors for its polished service, lively atmosphere and consistently excellent seafood. The private dining options cater beautifully to small and mid-sized groups, with flexible set-up options and a welcoming, city-centre location just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.

The food here is the real star. Drawing on Scotland’s rich coastal bounty, the menu is a celebration of seasonal, sustainable seafood: think octopus with chorizo and mojo rojo, pepper-crusted venison carpaccio with smoked mussel emulsion, and king scallops served with parsnip purée and charred grapes. Larger plates are equally impressive, ranging from the crowd-pleasing madras coley and king prawn curry to the elegant halibut fillet with wild mushroom risotto or the indulgent linguine with king prawns, mussels and cockles, which can be elevated with a half lobster for an extra-special occasion.

There are also hearty, non-seafood options such as the chicken supreme with aubergine ratatouille and a generous selection of sides designed for sharing: hand-cut chips with rosemary salt, green beans in salsa verde, and a classic rocket and parmesan salad.

For those seeking a memorable meal in Edinburgh with just the right balance of city polish and relaxed hospitality, Fishers in the City’s private dining offering ticks all the boxes. It’s intimate, central, and delicious - a winning combination for any occasion worth celebrating.

Best seafood in Edinburgh! I love establishments like this oneNOVEMBER, 2025

I love establishments like this one. The ambiance, the waiters, the food. It is really comfortable being there and you know you are going to have a good meal. I had the fish soup which was tasty but not amazing. It had haddock and salmon in it. The fish pieces in the soup were a little chewy. I assume its because the soup is made in a big batch and kept warm during the entire service so the fish gets overcooked. It may be a good idea to add the fish last minute. The scallops were amazing. One of the best I have had. They were really fresh and sweet. The plate worked really well as a whole. My gf had the mussels so no comment on those. It was a shame that I had stomach problems and couldn’t eat much. I will definitely visit again to try lobster and langoustines.

It was one of the best meals I had in EdinburghJULY, 2025

This is a bit of a late review, but Fisher in the City truly deserves a mention! It was one of the best meals I had in Edinburgh. Tucked away on a quiet street in the Old Town, the restaurant isn’t very big, but it’s cosy, stylish, and full of character. The staff were warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. The menu isn’t huge, but that’s a good thing — it’s focused and well thought out. The seafood was incredibly fresh. I really enjoyed the mussel pasta — full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The oysters were also super plump and fresh. Everything was just spot-on.I’ll definitely be coming back the next time I’m in Edinburgh. Highly recommend if you’re a seafood lover!
