Coppa Club is a rapidly expanding chain of UK restaurant-bar-lounge spaces which aim to embody the best bits of a members club, but without the fees or the waiting list. Its spaces offer relaxed, stylish snugs to work in (laptop users are very much welcome), as well as a well-stocked bar, dining room and a schedule full of events to draw in locals and regulars.
As with a members space, Coppa Club encourages its users to make the most of the facilities, often offering private dining rooms perfect for hosting get-togethers, birthdays, brand events or corporate lunches. Coppa Club The Bath Townhouse does exactly that with its private room, The Oval.
Positioned on the second floor, The Oval is - you guessed it - an oval-shaped room hued in sunshine yellow with a stunning skylight decorated with golden detailing. The walls feature modern panelling and quirky details like a decorative cut-out for placing drinks on, and are lined with vintage posters of French flapper girls. In the centre is a marble-topped table with mid-century-style chairs with enough space to seat eight diners comfortably.
Bright and light in the daytime but full of atmosphere come evening, this snug space is great for holding a special supper or networking drinks. It even has its own mini bar where a small selection of drinks can be refrigerated, allowing you to top up your own wine throughout the evening.
Private diners are invited to order from the celebration menu which offers two or three courses for a set price. To start, you'll find dishes such as buttermilk fried chicken with chilli mayo, pickled red cabbage and lime, and seared king prawns with garlic, chilli, lemon and warm rustic bread. For mains, peruse the likes of flat iron steak with skinny fries, chalkstream trout and herbed freekah and the Coppa plant based burger with a vegetarian patty and skinny fries. For dessert, we like the sound of the flourless chocolate cake, as well as the sticky toffee pudding with honeycomb vanilla.
