This Wednesday, Villandry will welcome one of the Stellenbosch region’s most prestigious winemaking families to its dining room for a South African feast with matching wines.
Ezanne Gouws winery has a charming back story – in 1975, Ernst Gouws was sent to South Africa from Europe by his father, who told him not to return until he had mastered the art of winemaking. Ernst invited his childhood sweetheart Gwenda to join him out in Stellenbosch, and the pair run their winery to this day with the help of their three grown-up children.
Guests at this intimate event will taste and compare a range of wines from the winery’s most recent harvests, including a 2015 Chenin Blanc, a 2014 Pinot Noir, and a 2012 Merlot – plus the spectacular 2015 Nineteenfiftytwo. Villandry’s chefs will serve up a delicious dinner to accompany the wines, with dishes including crayfish and lobster bisque, and South African delicacies such as mini bobotie and ostrich pie.
Tickets to this event cost £55, including a welcome glass of fizz. To book, call 020 7930 3305, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
