Join a food workshop with At The Table at the Town Hall Hotel

The Typing Room at Bethnal Green cookery classes

Do you remember summer camp? Or rather, do you remember wishing you were American so you could actually go to a summer camp? Well, now’s your chance – no visa required. From 10 July until the summer is out, At The Table will host a series of Summer Camp workshops at Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel, which will cover all sorts of practical skills, including loads of food-focused events. Here are our picks…

Sunday 7 August, 12N-2.30pm: Learn how to make shengji bao (aka pan-fried soup dumplings), courtesy of Broadway Market street food stars Dumpling Shack. Founder John Li will take you through the hands-on class, which covers making the dough from scratch, filling and folding, and making a traditional jelly soup broth. After the class, you can sit down to a family-style feast with the group. Tickets cost £40 each.

Wednesday 10 August, 7-9.30pm: The founders of Hackney hit Rawduck will host a session on fermentation. By the end of the workshop you’ll feel confident making your own ferments, for anything from kimchi to sauerkraut; you’ll even end up with your own ferment to take away. Tickets cost £45 each.

Later in the summer, don’t miss Padella’s session on how to make pasta from scratch. If you’ve already tried the pasta at this massively successful follow-up to Trullo, you’ll know why this is a must-book; if not, once you see the queues outside the restaurant you might decide it's easier to make your own Padella pasta at home...
