‘Connubio’ equates to the Italian term for ‘marriage’, which in the case of Marylebone restaurant Twist Connubio, means a melange of Spanish and Italian cuisines – except with a twist. This unusual fusion of food culminates in an exciting and modern take on tapas dining.
The ground floor of the restaurant can welcome up to 30 guests for a sit-down meal, or 35 for a standing reception, while the basement is able to accommodate the same amount - 30 seated or 35 standing. You can also plump for exclusive hire of the entire venue, which has a maximum capacity of 60 for a seated event or 70 for a standing drinks reception.
The rustic, pared back dining room offers a cosy space that is well suited to events during the winter months. The distressed wooden flooring, terracotta-toned walls and oak beams running along the ceiling give the venue a warm and traditional feel - much like a typical Italian tratorria! Candles and hanging pendant lamps bathe the space in soft lighting, making it a snug corner of London to retreat to with friends and family for a special occasion.
From the menu, sharing plates are split between vegetables, meat and fish. Vegetable dishes include fried courgette flowers with ricotta and mint, burrata with confit tomatoes and a Spanish-style tortilla - plenty to choose from if you're vegetarian. Further down, take your pick from roasted octopus, tuna tartare, BBQ onglet steak and baked bone marrow. The menu pay homage to their Spanish and Italian roots, with each plate spotlighting a few simple ingredients that are all of the highest quality and provenance.
For sit-down dinners, guests can also choose to order from the tasting menu, which offers a small, medium or carte blanc option depending on how hungry you are. Finally, for those who like their wine, the list at Twist Canubbio is sure to impress, which you can order by the glass, carafe or bottle.
