Used as an air raid shelter for American and Canadian soldiers during WWII, the wine cellars beneath The Stafford London are loaded with history – over 300 years to be precise. It’s even been said that at one time or another some of its doors led straight through to the Royal Palace of St James’s. Nowadays, around 8,000 bottles of wine are stored there and are looked after by sommelier Gino Nardella; he’s been at the hotel for 37 years, himself. All that should get conversation started for an event held in the space. Forty-four guests can be accommodated for dinner and 75 for a standing do. The bar down there can also be booked on its own for 40 reception guests.
