Housed within London’s home of human ingenuity, the iconic Science Museum, the Smith Centre is an inspiring place to hold an event. Originally constructed in 1890 as the on-site post office, this space within the museum's Exhibition Road estate has recently undergone a complete refurbishment into a set of elegant spaces of varying size, suitable for a wide variety of daytime and evening events.
The largest of the spaces is the Salon. Big, bright and open, the space is a charming blend of old and new, with features including beautiful parquet flooring, glazed brickwork and a range of hand-picked historical objects from the Museum collection, including a replica pressure suit from the last mission to the moon and the striking Electrical Engineering Workshop painting by Terence Cuneo. Also among the original features is an open-plan courtyard area, which is included with hire of the Salon at no extra cost. One Meeting Room is also included for both daytime and evening hire, while evening hire sees the additional inclusion of the Boardroom.
During the day, the Salon operates as a lounge with a number of small breakout areas, but can easily be transformed into a theatre-style set-up for 100 guests, a banqueting arrangement for up to 64, or configured with round tables for a seated lunch or dinner for up to 60. The space also lends itself well to a standing reception for up to 200.
For meetings, the Boardroom provides space for up to 30 and the Large Meeting Room can seat 20. The Boardroom can also be hired for lunches of up to 20 guests.
Located on the ground floor, the centre can be accessed either through the main Science Museum entrance on Exhibition Road or through a private entrance on Imperial College Road, and benefits from a fully integrated AV system throughout. Plus, if you place an order with the museum’s online gift shop as part of your events package, you’ll receive a discount on your order – perfect for ensuring your event is one to remember.
