No one’s quite sure of this St Katharine Docks site’s full history. What is now the Dickens Inn certainly existed at the turn of the 18th century, but whether it’s older than that and whether it was owned by a tea company or a local brewery is very much up for debate. What’s certain is the current pub’s availability as an agreeable events venue. Looking towards Tower Bridge, the Function Suite best evokes the building’s rich history. The timber-clad Grill is the spot for formal dining, while the Copperfield Bar is relaxed, cosy and up for anything from quiz nights to leaving dos. The spacious second-floor pizzeria has a balcony and some fine watery views.
