Updated on 27 June 2018

London is a place known for its buzzing nightlife, with the West End and the City full of clubs and party bars. This squaremeal.co.uk page has a comprehensive list of London’s top night spots, for parties, receptions and even an informal conference or board meetings.

Nightclubs are the best place in town to hold a late-night party or reception. During the London 2012 Olympics, particularly, there is set to be a big demand for party space once all the sport is finished. It is clubs, music venues and bars across the capital that will be able to accommodate those groups wishing to carry the party on with a bit of clubbing.

The variety in style, location, capacity and price is varied enough that you will always find something suitable for your event. From roof top venues catering to weddings and parties in west London, to cool arty and designer haunts in central London and the West End. Then, of course there’s the City with its private members’ clubs and sophisticated night spots.

The Scotch of St. James

The Scotch of St. James

13 Masons Yard, London, SW1Y 6BU

In swinging 60s London, The Scotch of St James was the Mayfair hideaway of choice for the musical elite. Today, it retains the old cachet. Up top, a copper bar dominates a lavishly attired main room, and there’s a flexible breakout space next door. Downstairs is the nightclub where Clapton and Hendrix once performed – its dancefloor now supported by the latest AV. A late licence means events today can still go all the way through to 5am.

Drama Park Lane

Drama Park Lane

35 Hertford Street, Mayfair, London, W1J 7SD

This high-end nightclub and cocktail club secretly opened within the London Hilton on Park Lane a few years back. Today, it’s a celebrity hotspot (Rihanna, Usain Bolt and Leonardo DiCaprio have all visited) which also doubles up as a venue for product launches, fashion shows and dinners (Monday-Wednesday). It’s run by the people behind Cirque Le Soir, so those planning a party at the venue can rest assured it’ll be memorable.

Tropicana Beach Club

Tropicana Beach Club

Tropicana Beach Club’s theme and decor are hard to miss. New to the market in 2017, this ‘rum-soaked tropical oasis’, with 30ft palm trees and a beach party-style atmosphere, is ready-made for a memorable event. Exclusive use is the obvious choice, but smaller groups can book one of 12 VIP beach cabanas. Parties can then head to the ‘lagoon pool’ dancefloor or take part in beach games like surfboard limbo. Ferdie Ahmed’s quartet of cocktail bars are inspired by the food and culture of Hispanic ghettos and this, his original venue, can be hired exclusively. Reclaimed materials create a street-culture vibe, while food and drink is decidedly Latin. Samba dancers and capoeira performers can be booked, and photo booths are available to capture the fun. The 20-seat La Caravana booth is a fun spot for tequila tastings, while DJs and/or live music are an optional extra.

From live-music specialist The House of Song, this is the Leicester Square sister to The Piano Works. The Blue Room, with its own grand piano, can be hired exclusively for groups to take part in ‘Can’t Sing Choir’ singing lessons or cocktail masterclasses.

SAMA Bankside

SAMA Bankside

3 Robinson Road, Southwark, London, SE1 8BU

Set within two Victorian railway arches beneath Blackfriars bridge, Sama Bankside is a vibrant new restaurant, bar and events space. Spanning 550sq m and set over two floors, the industrial-looking venue (with plenty of exposed brick and a polished concrete floor) bills itself as ‘a members club without the membership’, but can also host meetings, dinners, product launches and workshops. Our pick of the spaces is the colourful glass-fronted private room.

The London Reign Showclub

The London Reign Showclub

215-217 Piccadilly, London, W1J 9HN

This relaunched Piccadilly nightclub makes quite a statement, with an infectious vibe that’s part Moulin Rouge, part Las Vegas. The glitzy venue features a waterfall and an illuminated jellyfish tank, plus nightly aerial acts as standard. The main space works well for awards dinners and conferences, while the mezzanine is a great spot to kick off a drinks reception. Fun fact: the venue was a set location for the film An American Werewolf in London.

Cell 200 is suitably self-contained, while The Terrace dancefloor room has a new sound system, dedicated conference facilities and access to an outdoor space. A basement dancefloor room suits fashion shows, and look out too for the Main Room, set to open in May.

City Zebrano

City Zebrano

18-22 Houndsditch, London, EC3A 7DB

Beneath the chrome stalactite lighting at Zebrano’s City branch you’ll find European cuisine with Asian influences (think crispy duck salad and antipasti boards) and bartenders who pride themselves on their cocktail knowledge. Our favourite is the Almond Old Fashioned. The lounge bar makes a good spot for large networking events or drinks receptions, and there’s a nice private dining room that provides a more intimate atmosphere.
