Livery Halls + Institutions

Society headquarters and national institutions abound in London. In the City and central London especially, there seems to be one on every street corner. And nearly all of them are open to hire for your private event. On this page of Squaremeal.co.uk we’ve lined up a comprehensive list of unique HQs and institutions, with function rooms for hire. In a similar vein, you’ll also find London’s top livery halls on the list, offering some of the most impressive spaces to hold a wedding, conference, drinks reception or party. Many of the academy, college and specialist organisation venues in the capital have been there rather a long time. With all this history and tradition, these venues can really add character and gravitas to your event. A technology-focused product launch, for example, would work really well in a like-minded institution. There are many headquarters and institutions that double up as conference centres and you’ll also be surprised how many of them have meeting rooms for hire that accommodate up to and over 1,000 guests.

The place UK pharmacists call home is also an attractive central London venue. Ten minutes’ walk from Waterloo, in Westminster, RPS offers state-of-the-art facilities and great views of the capital. There are five spaces in all, with three of them looking out at Lambeth Palace and across the river. The bright and airy Westminster Room is the largest available for business occasions, accommodating up to 90 seated delegates. For something more informal, we’d suggest the top-floor Riverview Lounge, which has great views on two sides and will hold 180 guests for a drinks do. The venue’s other strength is its catering, with a selection of menus to suit canapé receptions through to banquets.

Catering stalwart Party Ingredients is now serving the Whitehall site of Henry VIII’s old bedchamber. It seems that a 16th-century bedroom could be an expansive affair: the listed Victorian building that replaced King Henry’s four-poster and commode includes a trio of event spaces. Lots of natural light flows into all three, while removable raised stages and modern AV facilities make them as good for conferences and award ceremonies as they are for dinners and cocktail receptions. The Duke of Wellington Hall, with its own minstrels’ gallery, is the star turn; the Library and Reading Room can be hired separately or as a suite.
