For a Christmas party that's far more decadent than your average festive dinner, Trèsind London makes a compelling case for high-level Indian dining in London with plenty of private dining spaces to boot. Set on Hanover Street in Mayfair, the restaurant brings modern Indian fine dining into one of London’s most polished neighbourhoods, with plush interiors, a serious tasting menu and several spaces that can be tailored to anything from an intimate dinner to a full-venue celebration.
The main Dining Room seats up to 60 and feels suitably glamorous for the season. Floor-to-ceiling windows, warm metallic tones, deep upholstered banquettes and sculptural pendant lights give the room a sleek, cocooning feel, while low table lamps keep things intimate after dark. For smaller groups, The Cellar seats just 10 around one long table surrounded by walls of wine bottles, creating a much more private, almost club-like atmosphere. Tryst accommodates 27 guests, while full venue hire works for up to 87.
Food is the real event. Under Chef Himanshu Saini and Chef Amit Bagyal, Trèsind’s tasting menu takes Indian flavours and reworks them through contemporary technique and highly precise presentation. The sample signature tasting menu begins with bites such as arugula pani puri with preserved pear, watermelon with Guntur chilli sambal and mushroom chai with king oyster mushroom and za’atar cannolo.
From there, the selection becomes richer and more theatrical: Orkney scallop varuval arrives with Kristal caviar and black truffle, followed by prawns with asparagus, zeera aloo espuma and tomato rasam. Wild duck confit is paired with saag and corn waffle, while tortellini comes with gorgonzola dolce, smoked chicken makhani and chilli jam. Lamb chop with rosemary vindaloo and Goan sanna follows before the meal moves towards khichdi, pandan payesh and a final coffee stone.
Oh, and what's more, the speakeasy-style bar downstairs is the ideal place to have a nightcap before the night is over.
