If organising this year’s office Christmas party has landed on your lap, you've come to the right place. It’s hard to please everyone with a central location, aesthetic venue and great food that appeals to the masses, but have you tried Piccalilli? This independent, seasonal restaurant on Canon Court is a much-loved local with an impressive menu and in this department, scores a hat trick.
Founded by head chef Dan Coles, Piccalilli says its concept is simple: good, honest, seasonal food. What’s not to love about that? Come wintertime the small plates menu is heaving with rich, indulgent meat dishes, heady stews and bitter greens. So, when it comes to Christmas feasts you’re in luck, thanks to Dan’s passion for local suppliers, foraging and British-inspired recipes. While the Christmas menu isn’t yet out, you’re welcome to ask the team for a heads up, or look to previous dishes for ideas such as pork belly braised in cider, apple, mustard, sage and celery, alongside roast venison with beetroot, pickled blackberries and juniper.
The menu’s format with nibbles, small plates across meat, fish and vegetarian options, followed by desserts and cheeses is ideal for group dining. A mix of plates can be laid across the table for everyone to dig in, while nibbles of Devilled eggs with paprika mayonnaise and cheeses from the Midlands feel very apt for the most festive time of year.
The team are also skilled at mixology, having come up with a unique cocktail menu that’ll help get the party going. While the wintertime cocktails are still in the offing, we love the sound of the Palmetto with Sacred Ape spiced rum, sweet vermouth and orange bitters. There’s also non alcoholic options like Belvoir pressé and zero percent beers and wines.
While seating capacities and floor plan layouts aren’t available online, the team can’t wait to hear from you and are excited to help plan your perfect Christmas bash.
