Opposite the Lloyds building in historic Leadenhall Market, this outpost of the Davy’s chain is kitted out with workshop-style tables, glass lamps, buttoned upholstery and other recycled Victoriana, plus some discreet booths resembling railway compartments for those who want to escape the hubbub. Food-wise, the focus is on two Josper grills, which knock out everything from spit-roasted game birds and baby chicken with paprika glaze to 28 day-aged rib-eye steaks, burgers, bangers and BBQ plaice on the bone with seaweed butter. Veggies aren’t ignored, either, with the likes of halloumi skewers and superfood salads assuaging meat-free appetites. As expected, there are plenty of affordable wines on the trademark Davy’s list (including lots by the glass), while cocktail fans can sip jazzed-up classics while grazing on modish small plates. “Always up to standard – never disappointed”, says one fan.
