WELLBOURNE BRASSERIE PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN DECEMBER 2018

White City Place is a futuristic cluster of skyscrapers for work, home and shopping for media and techie types. At the foot of one bold high-rise is Wellbourne Brasserie, its glass walls facing south and west and a huge sunny terrace overlooking rolling lawns. It’s a new all-day modern British brasserie from Ross Gibbens and Michael Kennedy, chefs with CVs to die for (Dabbous, The Square, Launceston Place and Le Manoir to name a few). Despite a starry background, there’s a refreshing lack of swank, with affordable prices and remarkably good cooking.

Snack on flatbread with taramasalata, cured meats or a trio of vol-au-vents ahead of starters proper: creamy fresh burrata with ribbons of white asparagus, confit Jersey royals with ricotta and fresh herbs, or sardines bathed in a glistening gremolata. Mains include superior fish and chips with crushed peas, and a magnificent escalope of Ibïama pork served with spring greens perked up with XO sauce and shards of lardo. A £12 plat du jour might be cassoulet or buttermilk chicken while there are desserts to defy any diet such as summer pudding with clotted cream.

With a wine list at easy-going prices, cheerful service and even homemade sourdough loaves to take away, this is a great addition to west London. And White City tube is three minutes’ walk. Go now.

Wow what an amazing find!!
I visited Wellbourne Brasserie for dinner with a friend, who had been raving about it since it opened. It was a lovely sunny evening when I visited and as I walked across the green to the restaurant their outdoor terrace looked especially inviting. We ordered the Conde Valdemar Rioja Rosado, which was recommended by one of the team. He really knowledgeable and chatted us through the wine list. A good rose in the sunshine is always a winning start! The menu is really reasonably priced and there were lots of dishes that appealed. I went for Confit Jersey Royal potatoes and ricotta salad to start and Veal Holstein for main. My friend opted for Chicken liver parfait followed by the lemon sole. The team are ex-Dabbous, so expectations were high and the meal certainly didn’t disappoint. Both courses were delicious. The Confit Jersey Royal potatoes were fresh and perfect for a sunny spring day and my Veal Holstein really packed a punch. I finished the whole plate and despite being totally stuffed my friend and I shared the Chocolate brownie ice cream, which again was fantastic. I don’t often write reviews but this place really did exceed my expectations and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
