About

If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, countryside wedding reception with proper food, warm-hearted service and a setting full of charm, The Freston Boot makes a strong case. Just outside Ipswich, this 17th-century pub has been brought back to life after 12 years of dereliction and now, it’s the kind of place where stories start, and where you’ll want to gather all your favourite people.

The building itself is a beauty: 400 years of character wrapped up in exposed beams, cosy corners and original features, all lovingly restored with sustainable materials and repurposed furniture. It feels both historic and homely, rustic but with a little polish. The interiors are warm and welcoming, and outside you’ll find a generous garden that works beautifully for drinks, photographs or just a little post-ceremony air.

Food is at the heart of The Freston Boot. Their menu leans into classic British pub fare made with the best Suffolk produce, but with some lovely surprises including Caribbean-inspired dishes and a monthly changing specials board. You can build a bespoke wedding menu with hearty mains like curry with flatbreads and chutney, beer-battered haddock, or their signature Boot Burger. Finish with a rich chocolate brownie or a mini sponge and hot drink combo for a relaxed, generous feast that suits the setting.

For smaller weddings, there’s even an unexpected bonus: The Freston Kino, an on-site boutique cinema tucked into one of the outbuildings. It can be privately hired - perfect for playing a slideshow of memories, screening a favourite film or simply entertaining younger guests during the day.

Whether you're looking for a laid-back reception with long tables and fairy lights or an intimate dinner after a registry ceremony, The Freston Boot offers a charming canvas. It’s unpretentious, warm and quietly beautiful and the team behind it clearly care about what they’re creating. With roaring fires in winter and garden celebrations in summer, it’s a versatile, characterful venue that doesn’t try too hard which, let’s face it, is exactly what you want for a wedding.

Testimonials for The Freston Boot

Suffolk WeddingFEBRUARY, 2023

I photographed a wedding here over the summer and absolutely loved the relaxed festival vibe. A tipi wedding was particularly welcome on one of the hottest days of the year. The food was honestly absolutely stunning and the staff were really dedicated. Brilliant choice for a wedding
