If you're looking for a wedding venue in Essex that offers period charm, beautiful facilities inside and out, accomodation for your loved ones and exclusive use, then this could be the one for you. The aptly named 'That Amazing Place' is a Grade II-listed manor house, surrounded by Essex countryside. Originally a family home, its current owners have lovingly renovated it to be suitable for weddings, including the use of an adorable cottage with accommodation for up to 29 people across 14 bedrooms, plus a honeymoon cottage for the newlyweds - so you can spend the whole weekend with your loved ones. 

Inside, there are several spaces that are set up perfectly to host your special day. Starting in the Lakeview Lounge, the sash bay windows offer lovely views and plenty of natural light. This space can host up to 70 guests and works wonderfully for a ceremony, drinks reception or even just a lounge for guests to relax in. 

Within the house, the largest space is The Hall. While still boasting period features, The Hall is an open, airy room with lots of light and a space for 100 ceremony guests, with a dining capacity of 80. If planning a big dinner, this is a great place for lots of individual tables and can also be transformed into a dancefloor for guests later on.

Or, why not take things outside? The year-round marquee has a whimsical draped ceiling and central chandelier. Either views of the grounds on a hot day, or keep the sides down if the weather isn't playing ball. Here, you can host a wedding breakfast for 150 people, or 200 in the evening. 

Members of the team are more than happy to talk through your special day with you and have prepared a selection of packages to make things even easier. For example, the Classic package includes drinks, canapes, a three-course wedding breakfast and DJ, while the Twilight package works for those who want something informal with a later ceremony and a feasting-style BBQ.

The Hall is our largest space inside the house and features beautiful chandelier lighting, a large mirrored wall, original fireplace and elegant sash windows. It can be used for wedding ceremonies for up to 100 guests, wedding breakfasts for up to 80 people seated and also as an evening dancing option.

Our stunning marquee has crisp white linings and beautiful chandelier lighting. With panoramic walls to showcase our glorious grounds, there really isn’t a better view whilst enjoying your wedding breakfast. In addition, during the warmer summer months, our panoramic walls all open up, so you almost feel like you are dining alfresco! This beautiful space can be used all year round for ceremonies of 100-150 guests, wedding breakfasts for up to 150 guests and evening receptions for up to 200 guests (provided that you use our in-house DJ Herts Events).

Our beautiful lounge is bright an elegant with its gorgeous bay sash windows. With views of our picturesque grounds, it is the perfect space for a wedding ceremony for up to 70 guests. In the evening this room can be transformed into a stunning dance floor and with its close proximity to the bar, it creates the perfect atmosphere for an incredible evening reception. Alternatively, you can choose to leave it as a Lounge and use it as a space for your friends and family to relax and chat. The choice is yours!

We had our wedding at That Amazing Place, and it truly lived up to its name! From start to finish, Angie, Louise and Paul were incredibly friendly, supportive, and easy to work with. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and they went above and beyond to make our day feel special. The venue itself is beautiful, but it’s the team that really makes it shine. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, 10/10 and would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing wedding venue!

What an Amazing Place indeed.SEPTEMBER, 2025

What an Amazing Place indeed… and what Amazing People. Angie helped to make the planning and the day stress free and a wonderful experience. We had a September wedding in the main house with 80 day guests and over 120 in the evening. Full use of the house and bedrooms made it feel like home. The guests said how great it was to start in the bar area with its cosy sofas and our acoustic guitarist singer (Marc Oliver). A quick pre wedding drink and some light snacks got them off to a good start. Then into the lake view room for the ceremony which was stunning. From there to canapés and more music enjoying the late September sunshine whilst eating and drinking reception drinks. Next entering the dining room which looked so romantic to a welcome shot which they kindly allowed us to bring with a gorgeous main meal and dessert (Lizzie from Magpie Catering) with wine flowing and speeches with Prosecco … the drinks package is extremely generous and I would recommend. After that back to the main house for the evening party. We managed to fit in a DJ (Andy from Herts Events) and a 4 piece band (The Dukes) … the dance floor was full from the beginning to the end. More food which I didn’t see as I was to busy dancing but I am told was superb. We were looked after like royalty by Angie and her team until about 10.30. And then Paul (the owner) took over and we felt like his family. Such a brilliant day. It could not have gone any better and we are so grateful. The only bad thing I can say is that it’s a shame we can’t do it all again…. Thank you TAP.

FAQs

When does venue exclusivity apply?

Exclusive use of the venue is from 11.30am on the day of the wedding until 10.00am the following morning (all packages, except The Twilight Party Wedding Package, when access is from 3pm)

When can we have access to That Amazing place?

Access is permitted from 11.30am for the wedding party (or 3pm for The Twilight Party Wedding Package). Suppliers (eg, venue decorators, florists etc) may arrive 3 hours before the ceremony time to set up. Wedding guests may arrive at the venue 45 minutes before the ceremony time.

What are the bedroom check in / check out times?

The wedding party may arrive from 11.30am to access the Honeymoon Cottage (or 3pm for The Twilight Party Wedding Package). Guest bedrooms are available for check in from 2.00pm (or 5pm for the Twilight Party package) on the day of the wedding. Check out from all bedrooms is 10.00am the following day.

Can I stay the night before my wedding?

Yes! Pre-wedding accommodation is available at The Wedding Lodge, a 4 bedroomed house (sleeping 8 guests), with 2 bridal preparation rooms, a lounge, kitchen/diner and large garden for £750.

What is the finish time for music and the bar?

The bar closes and music ends at 11.30pm from Thursday to Sunday and 11.00pm from Monday to Wednesday.

Do you offer dry hire?

We don’t offer full dry hire, but we’d be delighted to create a bespoke package tailored to your needs. This way, you’ll have the flexibility you’re looking for, while still benefiting from our support to ensure everything runs seamlessly.

Can we bring in our own caterers?

To ensure the quality of the food served, we prefer that you use one of our preferred caterers who can bespoke a menu to your personal requirements and budget. However, if our approved caterers are not suitable for your requirements, we can work with you to find an alternative option.

Do you allow corkage?

We do not offer the option of corkage, however we work very hard to ensure that we can provide our clients with good quality wines at reasonable prices.

Can we have our evening function in the marquee?

Yes, music is permitted in the marquee with our in-house DJ Herts Events. If you would like to provide your own DJ or band, please contact us to discuss the options for this.

Is the accommodation included in your wedding package costs?

No, the overnight accommodation (charged at £2,500 for all 15 rooms, sleeping 31 guests) is not included in the wedding package price. We keep this separate as couples usually recoup room costs from their guests and it therefore doesn't need to factor in your wedding budget.

Do I have to book the accommodation?

This depends on your chosen package and the day of your booking. For Classic, Relaxed and Twilight Plus packages booked on a Friday or Saturday, full accommodation must be booked as part of your exclusive use of the venue. For bookings Sunday to Thursday, or if you're choosing our Twilight Party or Wedding Reception packages, there is an option to only to book the Honeymoon Cottage.

Is furniture included in the hire price?

Yes, our venue hire price includes your tables and chairs

Is there overnight parking?

Your guests are welcome to leave their cars overnight at their own risk. They must be collected by 10am the following morning.

Do you have disabled access?

Due to the age and character of our building, accessibility is a little limited, but we do our best to support guests with additional needs. We have a wheelchair ramp and a toilet with a grab rail, though please note this is not a fully accessible disabled facility. We also have two ground floor bedrooms which may suit guests who prefer to avoid stairs, though these are not fully accessible rooms. We do not have disabled bedrooms.
